Simpel: full breakdown
Simpel is a Dutch MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) that runs on the Odido network. It is one of the cheapest SIM-only providers in the Netherlands. The defining feature of Simpel's 2026 pricing is that ALL plans cost just €2.50 per month for the first 12 months of a 2-year contract. Whether you take 5GB or the unlimited plan, your first-year cost is identical.
This makes Simpel exceptional value if you want unlimited data. After the 12-month promo, the unlimited plan rises to €11 per month, which is still cheap compared to Odido's own unlimited at €22.50/mo or KPN's at €28/mo. The eSIM problem
Simpel's biggest limitation for expats is the complete absence of eSIM. In 2026, most modern smartphones (iPhone XS and later, most Android flagships from 2019 onwards) support eSIM. If your device has no physical SIM card slot (like some newer iPhone models), Simpel is not an option at all. Even if your phone has both eSIM and physical SIM, not having eSIM means you must wait for a physical SIM card to arrive by mail before you can use your new Dutch number.
This is a notable disadvantage for newly arrived expats who need a working Dutch number quickly. Physical SIM delivery typically takes 2-5 business days in the Netherlands.
Dutch-only support
Simpel offers no English support. The website, customer service, and account portal are entirely in Dutch. Why eSIM matters for expats moving to the Netherlands
When you move to a new country, the period between signing a contract and receiving a physical SIM card is a connectivity gap. In the Netherlands, postal delivery takes 2-5 business days. Without a working Dutch SIM, you cannot receive verification codes from Dutch banks, cannot use navigation on local data, and may miss important calls about your housing or job.
An eSIM eliminates this gap. You sign up online, the provider sends an eSIM QR code by email, you scan it with your phone's camera, and your new Dutch number is active within minutes. Many expats activate their Youfone eSIM the day before they fly to the Netherlands so they land already connected.
