Youfone: full breakdown
Youfone is an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) that licenses capacity on KPN's 4G and 5G network. Your signal, coverage, and 5G access are identical to KPN direct - you use the same towers. Youfone's model is to strip out the premium customer service layer and pass the savings directly to customers in the form of very low prices.
The promotional pricing is significant: the first 12 months of a 2-year contract cost €5/month for 10 GB (300 minutes included), €3.50/month for 30 GB (unlimited minutes), or €3.50/month for 40 GB (unlimited minutes). After 12 months, prices increase to the regular rate for the remaining year. The total 2-year cost is still well below what KPN charges per month. EU roaming and eSIM are included.
One important limitation: Youfone does not offer unlimited data plans. If you consistently use more than 40 GB per month, KPN is the better option. The Dutch bank account barrier: how to unlock Youfone
Youfone requires iDeal payment, which only works with a Dutch bank account. For many expats, this means they cannot sign up on day one. KPN does not have this requirement, which is why many expats start with KPN and switch later.
The workaround: bunq bank opens a Dutch bank account without a BSN and activates iDeal immediately. This allows you to sign up for Youfone (and other Dutch subscription services) before you have received your BSN registration. The process takes about 10 minutes online.

Can I keep my foreign number when switching to a Dutch plan?
