Coolblue Energie review 2026: cashback, contracts and English service
What the cashback is worth, how the rates compare, and who should pick something else
The short answer
Coolblue Energie is the energy brand of the Dutch electronics retailer. It pays up to €300 cashback, highest on the 3-year fixed contract, and supplies 100 percent green Dutch electricity at no surcharge. Its English website is the main reason expats choose it. See how it ranks against the other eleven suppliers in our Dutch energy providers comparison.
The cashback is not the largest in the market. Budget Energie, Essent and Energiedirect advertise up to €500, and Vattenfall up to €450. Our Vattenfall vs Eneco vs Coolblue comparison covers that trade-off in detail.
Bottom line: take Coolblue if you want to switch, sign and get answers in English, or if the free midday washing suits your household. Take a supplier with a lower rate or a bigger bonus if you are comfortable doing everything in Dutch.

Contracts and how the cashback works
Coolblue keeps the choice short. You pick a fixed contract for 1 or 3 years, or a dynamic contract where the electricity price changes every hour. There is no variable contract to sign up for directly: a fixed contract that ends without renewal moves to a variable rate automatically.
With the dynamic contract you can still take gas from Coolblue, and the gas is then billed as a fixed amount per month. That pairing suits a household that can shift electricity use to sunny or windy hours but wants a predictable heating bill.
| Contract | How the price works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed, 1 year | Rate fixed for 12 months | New arrivals who may move within the year |
| Fixed, 3 years | Rate fixed for 36 months, highest cashback | Settled households wanting certainty |
| Dynamic | Electricity priced per hour, gas a fixed monthly amount | Solar panels, an EV or a heat pump you can time |
The cashback in practice
Coolblue advertises up to €300 cashback and gives the highest amount on the 3-year contract. It does not publish the 1-year figure, so enter your postcode on its site to see your amount before you commit. Coolblue also says it checks halfway through your contract whether prices have dropped, and offers a lower rate straight away if you renew. Leaving a fixed contract early usually costs a cancellation fee, so only take 3 years if you expect to stay at the address.
Coolblue rates against the market
The figures below are new-contract prices including energy tax and VAT, taken from the daily supplier table on energievergelijk.nl (2 November 2026). The yearly cost uses the Nibud average for two people (2.410 kWh and 1.040 m³ of gas) and includes network charges, fixed supply charges and the energy tax rebate, before any cashback.
| Contract | Electricity | Gas | Yearly cost, 2 people |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coolblue, 1-year fixed | €0.347/kWh | €1.946/m³ | €3.184 |
| Coolblue, 3-year fixed | €0.298/kWh | €1.783/m³ | €2.896 |
| Market average, new contracts | €0.337/kWh | €1.852/m³ | €3.062 |
The 3-year rate is where Coolblue is most competitive, and it is also the contract with the highest cashback. The 1-year rate sits close to the market average. Rates differ by region and change daily, so run your own address through the energy comparison tool before deciding.

Energy Deals and free midday washing
Energy Deals
Coolblue Energie customers get access to exclusive Energy Deals, discounts on Coolblue products from washing machines to televisions. If you are furnishing a new home anyway, this can be worth more than the difference in cashback between suppliers. Our furniture and appliance guide covers what a first Dutch apartment typically needs.
Free washing, drying and dishwashing
Customers can run a washing machine, dryer and dishwasher for free every day between 12:00 and 15:00, the hours when solar output is highest. Coolblue recently added Siemens dishwashers to the scheme. It only works with suitable appliances, so read the conditions before you buy one for it.
Green supply: Coolblue states that its electricity is 100 percent green energy from Dutch solar panels and wind turbines, at no extra cost. You can check any supplier's claim on its electricity label (stroometiket), which it must publish by 1 May each year. Our green energy suppliers guide explains how to read one.
The downsides
- The bonus is not the biggest. Up to €300 against up to €500 at Essent, Energiedirect and Budget Energie. Compare the bonus and the tariff together over the full contract.
- No dedicated energy app with real-time meter data. Suppliers such as Energiedirect and Oxxio offer more detailed consumption tracking.
- A younger energy brand. Coolblue started supplying energy in 2021, and some customer reviews mention slow final bills after cancelling.
- Energy only. There is no bundle with internet or TV, so the combination discounts other providers give do not apply.
- No variable contract to start on. You choose fixed or dynamic; variable only applies after a fixed contract ends.

Frequently asked questions
How much cashback does Coolblue Energie pay?
Up to €300, and the highest amount goes with the 3-year fixed contract. Coolblue does not publish a separate figure for the 1-year contract; the postcode check on its site shows the amount for your address and contract before you sign. Several suppliers advertise higher headline amounts, so compare the tariff as well as the bonus.
Which contracts does Coolblue Energie offer?
A fixed contract for 1 or 3 years, or a dynamic contract where the electricity rate changes every hour. If you take gas with a dynamic contract, you pay a fixed amount per month for the gas. When a fixed contract ends and you do not renew it, Coolblue moves you to a variable contract automatically.
Is Coolblue Energie electricity really green?
Coolblue states that its electricity is 100 percent green energy from the Netherlands, generated by solar panels and wind turbines, at no extra charge. Green contracts work through guarantees of origin, and every supplier must publish its electricity label (stroometiket) by 1 May each year, so you can check the claim on the label rather than on the marketing.
Does Coolblue Energie have English customer service?
Coolblue runs a full English version of its energy website, including the sign-up flow, which is rare among Dutch suppliers. It is the supplier we point to when English service is the deciding factor. Your contract documents and the regulatory paperwork may still be in Dutch.
What is free washing and dishwashing?
Coolblue Energie customers can run a washing machine, dryer and dishwasher for free every day between 12:00 and 15:00, when solar output is high. It works with suitable appliances; Coolblue currently lists Siemens dishwashers among them. Check the conditions on Coolblue's site before buying an appliance for it.
Do I need a BSN to switch to Coolblue Energie?
Yes. Like every mainstream Dutch energy supplier, Coolblue needs a BSN and a Dutch bank account for the monthly payments. Switching never interrupts your supply, because the regional network operator delivers the energy whichever supplier bills you.
